The Seoul Women's Hotline was founded in 1983 to eliminate wife abuse, and it is one of the leading non-governmental organizations for women's human rights in Korea.

The SWHL is making all-out efforts to;
- protect women's human rights from all forms of violence
- realize gender equality at home, work and in society
- create an environment in which women ourselves can fully participate in political, economic and social issues

Domestic Violence Counseling Center
The Domestic Violence Counseling Office provides counseling to the victims of domestic violence, and provides them with medical and legal support. To keep homes violence free, it trains future counselors on domestic violence and holds various kinds of campaigns and forums.

Seoul Sexual Assault Counseling Center
The Seoul Sexual Assault Counseling Center provides counseling, medical and legal support to the victims of rape and sexual harassment. In order to create equal and healthy values on sex and culture, the center trains sex education instructors and organizes sex education projects.

Temporary Protection Facility, "Shimteo"
The SWHL operates a "Shimteo", temporary protection facility, to provide the victims of domestic violence and sexual assault with a place to stay, and offers not only psychological treatment through individual, group counseling and various group activities but also legal and medical support.

1984 Inaugurated and participated in the women's union for repealing the early retirement policy on women aged 25
1986 Opened "the Window for Reporting Women Issues" to deal with gender discrimination and sexual harassment at work

1993 Produced an educational film on sexual violence, "Sexual Violence, Breaking the Chains"
Published a book, "He Says He Didn't Beat Her"
Participated in a "special committee" to legislate a sexual violence special law
1994 Published a prose collection written by the "Shimteo" residents, "Shelter Story"
1995 Held a Gathering of Lawyers for Women's Peace
Held a Gathering of Men to Nurture a Culture of Equality
Held a Gathering for the Realization of Gender Equality in Court
1996 Held the first "Camp for Daughters" (sex education)
Inaugurated the pan-national campaign headquarters to push ahead with the legislation of domestic violence prevention acts
Held "the Civil Gathering to advance the legislation of the Domestic Violence Prevention Acts"
1997 Korea Women's Hotline was divided into Seoul Women's Hotline and Korea Women's Hotline
Enacted "Exceptional law for punishing domestic violence perpetrators" and "Law for the prevention of domestic violence and for the protection of the victims"
1998 Opened "Emergency Call 1336 for the female victims of violence"
Opened the local committees of Kanseo-Yangchun (branch)
1999 Held a workshop on domestic issues and local communities' response to them during the economic crisis
Held a forum for the independence of women at Shelter and for social integration.
2000 l Held a forum on the realities of children who are harmed by domestic violence in abusive households
Conducted the first workshop involving police and medical care teams for supporting the victims of domestic violence, and published and distributed manuals
Made a case presentation on "Equality in the family and democracy in the local community"
Made a presentation on "the study of single women"
2001 Provided education for counselors on eliminating sexual violence on line
Held a public hearing to promote preventive education in schools on domestic violence
Produced and distributed an animation, titled "Doha's Dream," to educate children about domestic violence and its prevention
Published 'the Shelter Manual' on domestic violence and sexual violence
Conducted a project aiming at preventing the sex trade involving youth through street plays
2002 Held a workshop on the prevention of domestic violence with school teachers
Carried out a movement to secure women's property rights
Held a campaign to prevent sexual abuse against wives
Held a film competition in which youths participated with films on the prevention of domestic violence
Formed a gathering, "Sisters Who Love Local Communities"

Opened an on-line cafe for child victims of domestic violence
Held a workshop on domestic violence with social welfare workers
Provided education to the cyber monitoring team for political issues
Held a forum in commemoration of the 5th anniversary of enacting the Domestic Violence Prevention Law

Filed a lawsuit against SBS(Seoul Broadcasting System) who revealed confidential information about a domestic violence victim during an interview
